Balanus amphitrite
General description:
An upright barnacle somewhat taller than broad, with sharply pointed shell plate tips projecting above orifice. Up to 16 mm diameter, 12 mm height. Nearly white with red to purple vertical stripes. 6 shell plates with rostral plate overlapping those on either side. Calcareous base.

Distribution:
Cosmopolitan in warm and temperate seas particularly as a fouling species.
Habitat:
Occupies lower half of eulittoral and shallow sublittoral on rocks or commonly manmade objects.
