Macrophthalmus convexus
SUMMARY
Carapace broader than long and flattened in appearance, narrow front and lateral margins almost parallel with two anterolateral teeth. Eye stalks elongated. Chelipeds are nearly equal in size with elongated chela directed ventrally, smooth propodus with prominent tooth on cutting edge, dactylus with denticulate cutting edge and setosed.
Vernacular name: Chinese sentinel crab.
These crabs have long eyestalks, which they use to look out for enemies. The entrances to their burrows are always diagnostic, being slit-like.
