Glycera sp. 1 |
The family Glyceridae is superficially very similar to the Goniadidae; it is characterised by an elongate prostomium which is usually annulate, bearing 4 terminal antennae; with the exception of the first chaetiger which may bear reduced parapodia, the body is not divided into distinct regions; parapodia are either all uniramous or all biramous; pre-chaetal and post-chaetal lobes are present, plus dorsal and ventral cirri; branchiae present on middle and posterior parapodia of some species, either retractile or permanent, on the anterior or dorsal surface of the parapodium; neurochaetae compound spinigers, occasionally falcigers, notochaetae simple capillaries; eversible proboscis lined with proboscidial organs which vary little within a species, and fall into only a few major types; when fully everted, 4 jaws are visible at the opening of the pharynx, each with an associated jaw support (aileron); there are 2 anal cirri.
