Brachyura

Brachyura are the true crabs in which the carapace is generally flatten dorso-ventrally with a reduced abdomen folded under the carapace. In males the abdomen is narrow and v-shaped while in females it is broad and u-shaped to hold and protect the eggs. The first pair of legs is formed into a claw (chela) and the last pair of walking legs is always distinct, well developed and used for locomotion, or carrying objects.
